The Situational Awareness Platform provides operational staff with a real-time geographical view of the airfield.

The platform takes A-SMGCS data from existing implementations and displays aircraft and vehicle movements through an intuitive browser-based Human Machine Interface (HMI) that will be familiar to users who use mapping services on the Internet.

Security

Rockshore understands the Aviation market and the unique security threats that need to be addressed when distributing sensitive information.

In addition to standard security measures, airport specific security requirements can be met. A common example is the automatic filtering of government and military aircraft.

Rockshore have not yet faced an insurmountable security concern.

Safety

The Situational Awareness Platformcan be deployed at an airport without the need for a safety case. This is achieved through a zero-impact installation with respect to existing safety-critical systems and the acceptance of operational usage terms by the airport community.

This enables Situational Awareness implementations to be operational within a matter of weeks.

Service Delivery

The Situational Awareness Platform can be delivered as an on-site appliance or as a fully-managed service hosted within Rockshore's datacentre and accessed securely via the Internet.

Both deployment options do not require additional investment in dedicated terminals and can be accessed from a PC.

Benefits

  • Improved allocation and management of resources and better coordination between organisations leads to an improved service to passengers and better utilisation of the airfield.
  • Retain situational awareness in adverse conditions.
  • Providing a wide community of operational staff with real-time information leverages existing investments in A-SMGCS infrastructure.
  • The zero-impact deployment and terms of use mean that there is no requirement for a safety case ensuring airports can be live within weeks.
  • The use of Internet standards enables re-use of existing IT infrastructure with zero additional investment needed to distribute the HMI.
  • The export features readily supports safety investigations for incidents such as Runway Incursions and enables off-line analysis of taxiway usage.
"With the introduction of the Situational Awareness, British Airways has been given a tool that enables operational staff a real-time view of airfield movements. Aircraft, with active transponders, are now displayed on an Situational Awareness display via the Internet. This gives anyone with a PC the ability to view aircraft movements 24 hours a day. We are continuing to roll the system out to ever more users."

Mr Alan Sheldon, ATC Manager, BA.
